  • Sit comfortably in Padmasana or Siddhasana.
  • Keep your head and spine erect with eye closed.
  • Shut your left nostril with your ring finger and little finger.
  • Now breathe in (inhale) slowly and deeply through your right nadi.
  • After that, shut your right nadi with the thumb of your right hand.
  • Then exhale through your left nostril, along with keeping your right nostril closed.
  • This is one cycle is completed.
  • Repeat this process around 5 – 10 times.

How to Perform Surya Bhedana Pranayama with Bandha

  • Sit comfortably in Padmasana, Siddhasana or Swastikasana.
  • Keep your head and spine erect with eye closed.
  • Shut your left nostril with your ring finger and little finger.
  • Now breathe in slowly, deeply and quietly (without making any noise while inhalation).
  • When inhalation is completed, then shut your right nadi (right nostril) with your right thumb, left nadi is closed also.
  • Hold your breath and make Jalandhar Bandha and Mula bandh also.
  • Now hold the position with bandha for 5 to 10seconds. (Hold your breath with lock (bandha) as long as you can.
  • Release Jalandhar bandha and open your left nostril and exhale slowly.
  • Repeat this act for 5 to 10 times.

  • Now Exhale through both nostrils forcefully, so your stomach will go deep inside. As you exhale you feel some pressure in your stomach.
  • While the process of exhaling there is a hissing sound, at this point try to think that your disorders are coming out of your nose.
  • Repeat this process for 5 minutes.

  • Steps of Bhastrika Pranayama
  • Sit on the Padmasana (Lotus Pose) with eye closed.
  • Take a deep breath in (inhale), filling the lungs with air.After that gently breathe out.
  • In this inhaling and exhaling should take the same length of time-2.5 seconds to breathe in and 2.5 seconds to breathe out.

Dirga
Steps:

  • Come to lie down on your back with the eyes closed, relaxing your face and your body. You can keep the legs outstretched or bend your knees and bring the soles of your feet to your mat if that’s more comfortable. If you bend your knees, let them rest upon each other.
  • Begin by observing the natural inhalation and exhalation of your breath without changing anything. If you find yourself distracted by the activity in your mind, try not to engage in the thoughts. Just notice them and then let them go, bringing your attention back to the inhales and the exhales.
  • Then begin to inhale and exhale deeply through the nose.
  • On each inhale, fill the belly up with your breath. Expand the belly with air like a balloon.
  • On each exhale, expel all the air out from the belly through your nose. Draw your navel back towards your spine to make sure that the belly is empty of air.
  • Repeat this deep belly breathing for about five breaths. This is part one.
  • On the next inhale, fill the belly up with air as described above. Then when the belly is full, draw in a little more breath and let that air expand into the rib cage causing the ribs to widen apart.
  • On the exhale, let the air go first from the rib cage, letting the ribs slide closer together, and then from the belly, drawing the navel back towards the spine.
  • Repeat this deep breathing into the belly and rib cage for about five breaths. This is part two.
  • On the next inhale, fill the belly and rib cage up with air as described above. Then sip in just a little more air and let it fill the upper chest, all the way up to the collarbone, causing the area around the heart (which is called the heart center in yoga), expand and rise.
  • On the exhale, let the breath go first from the upper chest, allowing the heart center sink back down, then from the rib cage, letting the ribs slide closer together. Finally, let the air go from the belly, drawing the navel back towards the spine.
  • You are practicing three-part breath! Continue at your own pace, eventually coming to let the three parts of the breath happen smoothly without pausing.
    Continue for about 10 breaths.

Steps
Roll out your yoga mat and lie down flat on your back – knees straight, legs and feet together. Slide your hands beneath your thighs, palms downward, so that you are sitting on them. Keep your elbows and forearms tucked in close to the sides of your torso, pressing them firmly against the floor.

Inhale and lift your chest and head away from the floor; arch your chest until you are sitting halfway up. Then, release your head back onto the floor. Be sure to keep your legs straight and thighs active, reaching out through your heels.

You should support your weight on your forearms and elbows (absolutely not on your head). Either the back or top (crown) of your head will rest on the floor, depending on how high you arch your chest. It is important to lower your chest slightly toward the floor if you feel any pain or discomfort in your neck or throat.

As a beginner, hold the posture for 3-6 steady, deep breaths. To release, exhale and gently lower your torso to the floor, activating your thighs and abdominals to do so.

Precautions:
1) During pregnancy, this asana is to be avoided as it may places enormous strain on the womb especially if done incorrectly.

2) If you suffer from serious lower back or neck injury, it is better to avoid this yoga posture.

3) In the case of a hernia, this Hatha yoga asana preferably must not be practiced.

The Benefits Of The Fish Pose
These are a few amazing benefits of matsyasana.

  • Maintain the position till 10 to 60 seconds with steadily inhaling and exhaling.
  • Come to the original position slowly with the deep exhalation.
  • Repeat the process for 3 to 5 times

Precautions:

  • Don’t try this asana if you are suffering from high blood pressure, hernia, or peptic ulcer.
  • Don’t practice Bhujangasana during pregnancy!

Marjariasana – Cat Poselower back pain

Marjari‘ means ‘Cat’ and ‘asana’ means ‘pose’ so it is called Marjariasana (cat pose). From cat also we can learn the lesson in yoga. Marjari incorporate excellent stretch in yoga workout

Steps to do Marjariasana :

  • Sit in Vajrasana, lean forward putting both your hands perpendicular to the ground and palms on the floor pointing forward.
  • You can shift the legs slightly apart. Now, your position resembles a standing cat with your trunk parallel to the ground and thighs vertical and straight.
  • Relax your body in this base position – shoulder, back muscles, and thighs should all relax.
  • In this position, exhale completely letting your belly go inwards. You should move your head inwards between your shoulders while exhaling. Your back will automatically bend and arch upwards when you do this.
  • Hold this position for a few seconds, take a deep breath and begin with the second step.
  • The second step is to inhale and arch your back in the opposite direction. When you do this, the spine will bend slightly downwards. Now arch your head, neck, and shoulders backwards as if you are looking up.
  • Hold this position for a few seconds, take a deep breath and get back to the original position.
  • Take 3-6 breaths each time holding the breath for up to 30 seconds.
  • This process of exhaling and inhaling can be repeated as many times as you are comfortable. Minimum six times will be ideal.
  • You should do Marjariasana with slow and deep breathing focusing on the stretch caused at back, neck, and shoulders in the process. With regular practice, you will feel that stiffness gradually disappears and your back muscles and spine become flexible.

Precautions:

  • Never push yourself beyond your comfort level.
  • In case of the neck injury and pregnancy, please practice it under the guidance of an experienced yoga teacher only.

आमवात… एक असह्य वेदना

आमवात… एक असह्य वेदना

 

सांध्यांमध्ये असह्य वेदना असलेल्या एक काकू भेटायला आल्या. त्या त्यांची व्यथा सांगू लागल्या.

काकू : विचित्रच काहीतरी होत डॉक्टर! माझ्या सांध्यांमध्ये वेदना होतात. अगती असह्य. त्यात आतून गरमपणा जाणवतो. स्पर्शसुद्धा सहन होत नाही. सांध्यावर सुजही असते.

मी : आणखी काय होतं?

काकू : अहो, काय सांगू? एका सांध्याचं दुखणं कमी होत नाही तर दुसऱ्या सांध्यात वेदना व्हाययला लागतात. विंचू दंश झाल्यासारख्या वेदना असतात त्या! शिवाय भूकही कमी झाली आहे.

त्यांचे रिपोर्टस् पाहिले. एरिथ्रोसाइट सेडिमेंटेशन रेट (ईएसआर) वाढलेला होता आणि रुमॅटिक अर्भ्रायटिस फॅक्टर ‘पॉझिटिव्ह’ होता.

मी : हा आमवात! वातरोगाचा एक प्रकार.

ताण, आहारमूल्यांची कमतरता, व्यायामाचा अभाव, जास्तीत जास्त बैठे काम, खूप जास्त प्रवास, अतिश्रम, रात्री जागरण आणि दिवसा झोप अशा अनेक कारणांमुळे अशा प्रकारे भेडसावणारे वातरोग होतात. अलीकडे या कारणांमध्ये जंक फूड आणि फास्ट फूडचीही भर पडली आहे.

काकू : मी सगळ्या प्रकारचे औषधोपचार केले आहेत. कशाने काही फरक पडला नाही. सगळ्या ‘पॅथी’ करून झाल्या. आयुर्वेद तेवढा राहिला होता. माझा त्रास कमी होऊ शकतो का?

मी : ‘आमवात’ हा आजार पूर्णपणे बरा होऊ शकेल असे विशिष्ट उपचार आयुर्वेदात आहेत. लक्षणांची चिकित्सा उपचार केला जातो. उपचाराचा विचार करताना, आजार कसा होतो किंवा झाला आहे याचा विचार केला जातो. आता तुमच्या बाबतीत काय आहे ते सांगतो.

तुम्हाला ‘आमवात’ आहे. म्हणजे तुमच्या संधीवर वात वाढला आहे. त्या वातावर ‘आमाचा’ म्हणजे ‘विषाचा’ संचय झाला आहे. आमवाताबाबत कळीचा मुद्दा असा की स्नेहद्रव्याने वातविरोधी चिकित्सा केली तर ‘आम’वाढतो आणि ‘आम’ कमी करण्यासाठी चिकित्सा केली तर वात वाढतो.

काकू : मग कसं काय साधणार?

मी : मग काय! दोन्हीचा परस्परसंबंध साधून त्यांना मुळासकट काढण्यासाठी वात आणि आम यांची क्रमा-क्रमाने आनुषंगिक चिकित्सा करावी लागते. तेच आपण करणार आहोत. पोटातून औषध देताना शरीराची पचनशक्ती वाढेल अशी वातहारक औषधे देईन. महारसनाधी काढा, रास्नासप्तक काढा, सिंहनाद गुग्गुळ अशी योजना करू. पोट साफ व्हावे आणि आमसंचिती व वात कमी होण्यासाठी दररोज सुंठसिद्ध एरंडेल तेल तुम्हाला घ्यावं लागेल.

काकू : बरं आणि आयुर्वेदात बरीच तेलं आणि मसाज वगैरे असतं म्हणे. तस काही नाही?

मला हसूच आले. काकूंनी बरीच माहिती गोळा केलेली दिसली.

मी : आहे तर! याबरोबरच केरळीय पंचकर्मात दोषांच पाचन करण्याकरता एलाकिडी (पोटली मसाज) किंवा पोडिकिडी चिकित्सा देतात. वात आणि विष बाहेर काढण्यासाठी काढा आणि तेलाची बस्तीही असेल. अनुतेलानी नस्यम् चिकित्साही करता येते. सांध्यांमध्ये जास्त वेदना व गरमपणा म्हणजे विषद्रव्य जास्त! तेव्हा वालुका पोटली स्वेदही करावे लागेल असं दिसतंय.

काकू : आणि पथ्य?

मी : आहे तर. थंड, आंबट, खारट, गोड, जड, वातुळ पदार्थ कटाक्षाने टाळावे. चिंच, लिंबू, कैरी, टोमॅटो, डालडा, लोणचे, आइस्क्रीम, आंबा पूर्णपणे बंद! वेदनाशामक गोळ्या घ्यायच्या नाही. वेडंवाकडं बसू नका, बैठक नको. उगाच दगदग नको. अती श्रम नकोत. उकडले तरी चालेल पण अंग गार पडू देऊ नका. म्हणजे एसी, कूलर नको. नेहमी सुंठचुर्ण मिसळून गरम पाणी प्या. मुग, आले, लसूण, जिरे, सुंठ भाजून त्याचे सेवन करता येईल. शिवाय हलका व्यायाम!

आमवातावरचा हा आयुर्वेदातला हमखास उपाय आहे. उपचारात सातत्य, पथ्य पाळल्यास हा आजार निश्चितच बरा होऊ शकतो.

वैद्यकीय ज्ञानाच्या परीक्षेची घडी

डॉक्टर म्हटले की अनेक आजार, अनेक प्रकारच्या, विविध पातळ्यांवरच्या समस्या आणि अगणित केसेस! त्यातील काही अगदी साध्या, सहज बऱ्या होणाऱ्या. तर काही अतिशय

क्लिष्ट, गुंतागुंतीच्या. एवढ्या कठीण की डॉक्टर असण्याला त्या आव्हान देतात. केस कशीही असली तरी रुग्ण बरा झाल्यावर त्याच्या चेहऱ्यावर झळकणारा आनंद वेगळेच

समाधान देऊन जातो. काही केसेस अशा असतात की तेथे डॉक्टरचे कौशल्य, बुद्धिमत्ता, अभ्यास सगळेच पणाला लागते आणि आयुष्यभर ती केस, तो रुग्ण लक्षात राहतो. आज

अशीच एक केस पाहू या.

 

केस चिमूरची. तिथल्या जिल्हा परिषद सदस्यांनी माझ्याकडे आणली होती. माझ्याकडे रुग्ण म्हणून आलेल्या या रुग्णाचे वय पंचेचाळीस वर्षे होते. व्यवसायाने ते शेतकरी.

माझ्याकडे येण्याच्या एक वर्षपूर्वी शेतावर जात असताना त्यांच्या बंडीचे संतुलन बिघडले आणि ती उलटली. बंडीतून ते समोर फेकले गेले. त्यानंतर त्यांच्या पाठीवरून आणि उजव्या

खांद्यावरून बंडीचे चाक गेले. त्यांचा खांदा फ्रॅक्चर झाला, तेथील हाडांमध्ये मल्टिपल फ्रॅक्चर झाले.

 

या अपघातानंतर त्यांना दवाखान्यात भरती करण्यात आले. काही छोट्यामोठ्या शस्त्रक्रिया करून हाडे सेट करण्यात आली. हाडे, दोन महिन्यांनी कशीबशी जुळली पण दुखणे, वेदना मात्र कायम होत्या. हळूहळू त्यांच्या उजव्या हाताच्या स्नायुंमध्ये बदल व्हायला लागला. ते स्नायू कमकुवत होऊन हात बारीक होऊ लागला. ते माझ्याकडे आले तेव्हा हात

खूपच बारीक झाला होता, डाव्या हाताच्या अगदी अर्धा! त्या उजव्या हाताच्या संवेदना जवळजवळ नाहिशा झाल्या होत्या. हात नीट उचलला जात नव्हता. माझ्याकडे येण्यापूर्वी

नागपूरमधील सगळ्या मोठ्या शल्यविशारदांकडे, मुंबईतील लीलावती, केईएम रुग्णालयात, दिल्लीतील एम्स रुग्णालयात ते जाऊन आले होते. सगळीकडे, सगळ्याच डॉक्टर्सनी

त्यांना, हातावर शस्त्रक्रिया करावी लागेल असे सांगितले. मात्र, हात बरा होईल याची ५टक्के खात्री सुद्धा कोणीही दिली नाही. माझ्याकडे आले तेव्हा त्यांनी असा त्रास केरळीय

पंचकर्माने बऱ्या होऊ शकतात असे ऐकले होते. पण खात्री नव्हती. त्यामुळे तसे ते हताशच होते. नीट तपासणी केल्यावर २१ दिवसांचा उपचार करण्याचे ठरवले आणि तशी त्यांना

कल्पना दिली.

 

पहिल्या दिवशी अभ्यंगम् स्वेदन केले. पुढे तीन दिवस एलाकिडी केले. नस्यम बस्ती पूर्ण २१ दिवस सुरू ठेवले. एलाकिडीनंतर पिडीचिल केले. या गृहस्थांच्या दोषानुसार,

नाडीनुसार तेलाची निवड करून लिटर तेल शरीरावर सोडले. त्यामुळे लवचिकता वाढली, अशक्तपणा कमी झाला.

 

दुसऱ्या आठवड्यात नवराकिडी सुरू केली. नवराकिडीमुळे शरीरात गरमथंडपणा निर्माण होतो तसेच ते बल्य असल्याने चेता पेशी चेतासंस्थेला चालना मिळते. मांसपेशींना दृढता येते. दुसऱ्या आठवड्याच्या शेवटी त्यांना जवळजवळ ६०टक्के आराम मिळाला. हातातील रक्ताभिसरण वाढले, संवेदना आली, हाताचा आकार पुर्ववत व्हायला सुरुवात झाली. हात

उचलला जाऊन वर नेता येऊ लागला. तिसऱ्या आठवड्यात नवराकिडी, नस्यम, बस्ती आणि नंतर एका विशिष्ट तेलाने मालिश असा उपचार केला.
